FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is colonic hydrotherapy?

Colonic hydrotherapy is a gentle cleansing treatment designed to support the body’s natural elimination process by using warm, filtered water to cleanse the colon.

Many clients choose treatment to help support digestive wellbeing, reduce bloating and discomfort, or simply because they wish to feel lighter, refreshed and more balanced within themselves.

At The Treatment Rooms, treatments are carried out in a calm, private and supportive environment where your comfort and dignity are always my priority.

What happens during a treatment?

Before your treatment begins, we will spend time discussing your health, lifestyle, digestion and any concerns you may have so that you feel fully informed and relaxed.

During the treatment, warm purified water is gently introduced into the colon through a single-use system. The process is gradual, gentle and carried out entirely at your own pace.

Most clients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and relaxing the treatment feels. Gentle abdominal massage and breathing techniques may also be used throughout the session to help support release and relaxation.

Will I feel embarrassed?

It is completely natural to feel a little nervous or self-conscious before your first appointment, especially if you have never experienced colonic hydrotherapy before.

My aim is to help you feel comfortable, reassured and fully at ease from the moment you arrive. Your dignity and privacy are maintained throughout the treatment at all times, and everything is explained gently and professionally before we begin.

Some male clients choose to make their own simple “colonic boxer shorts” before attending by cutting a discreet slit in the back of a loose-fitting pair of boxers. This can help some people feel a little more relaxed and covered during treatment.

Most clients leave wondering why they worried in the first place.

Is colonic hydrotherapy painful?

Colonic hydrotherapy should not be painful. Most clients describe the treatment as relieving, calming and much more comfortable than they expected.

At times, you may experience mild cramping or pressure as trapped gas or waste is released, but this is usually temporary and passes quickly.

Treatments are always tailored to your comfort level and carried out gently and professionally throughout.

Will I lose weight?

Colonic hydrotherapy can support your overall wellbeing and may help you feel lighter, less bloated and more energised. Many clients choose to incorporate colonics as part of a wider health and wellness journey, particularly when improving their nutrition and lifestyle habits.

Modern diets can often be high in processed foods, refined sugars and additives, which may leave some people feeling sluggish, bloated or uncomfortable. By supporting the body’s natural elimination processes, many clients notice reduced bloating, improved digestive comfort and a greater motivation to make healthier food choices afterwards.

While colonic hydrotherapy is not a weight loss treatment, clients often tell me they feel refreshed, more comfortable within themselves and more mindful of what they put into their bodies following a session.

What if I’m on my period?

Yes — it is absolutely fine to have a colonic treatment whilst on your period if you feel comfortable to do so.

In fact, some clients find treatment particularly beneficial at this time, as the body is already naturally cleansing and releasing. Many women report feeling less bloated and more comfortable afterwards.

That said, everybody is different. If you would prefer to wait until your period has finished before attending your appointment, that is completely fine too. My priority is always that you feel relaxed, comfortable and fully at ease during your visit.

Is good bacteria removed during treatment?

A small amount of beneficial bacteria is naturally released during a colonic, just as it is during a normal bowel movement. However, the body is wonderfully designed to continually maintain and restore balance within the gut.

Following treatment, many clients choose to support their digestive health with high-quality probiotics and nourishing foods to help encourage healthy gut flora.

I often explain it like tending to a garden — once the area has been cleared and refreshed, it creates the perfect opportunity to nourish and support healthy growth again.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

To help you get the most from your treatment, I recommend drinking plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment and avoiding heavy meals immediately beforehand.

Arriving well hydrated, calm and in good time for your appointment can make a real difference to your overall experience. Try to avoid rushing or arriving stressed where possible, as relaxation helps support the body’s natural release processes during treatment.

Many clients also choose to reduce processed foods, alcohol and excessive caffeine prior to treatment to help support the cleansing process.

What happens after treatment?

After your session, many clients report feeling lighter, more comfortable and energised. Some people may feel tired afterwards, particularly if their body has been holding onto waste for some time, so it is important to rest, hydrate and nourish your body gently afterwards.

I may also recommend probiotics, hydration and supportive dietary advice following treatment to help maintain digestive balance and overall wellbeing.

How often should I have a colonic?

This varies from person to person and depends entirely on your individual goals, lifestyle and digestive health.

Some clients choose to come occasionally for wellbeing maintenance, whilst others prefer a short course of treatments to support ongoing digestive concerns or lifestyle changes.

During your consultation, I will always guide you honestly and professionally based on your individual needs, without pressure or unnecessary treatments.

Hygiene & Safety Standards

Your comfort, safety and privacy are incredibly important to me at The Treatment Rooms.

For every treatment, brand-new single-use speculums and tubing sets are used directly from sealed packaging and disposed of immediately after your session. All treatment areas, bathroom facilities and surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and sanitised between every client, and fresh towels are provided for each appointment.

I strictly follow RICTAT hygiene and safety protocols, including SOP 1 and SOP 2 procedures, to ensure the highest standards of cleanliness, client safety and professional practice are maintained at all times.

I take great pride in creating a calm, welcoming and discreet environment where you can feel completely comfortable, respected and cared for throughout your visit.

The only things shared between clients are a few smiles, gentle reassurance and techniques to help you fully relax throughout your treatment.
